Flynn Academic Center, Rocky Hill School East Greenwich, Rhode Island
This 22,000 SF building is shaped by the use of natural light, both as a metaphor for enlightenment and as a way to bring the building's core to life. Roof monitors flood the second floor with daylight, which is filtered to the entrance level through a glass block floor and balconies along the building's center. Windows into classrooms and science labs visually connect students, teachers, and administrators throughout the building.
This project implements the first phase of Rocky Hill School's Master Plan. It contains 17 seminar classrooms, four state of the art science laboratories, faculty workrooms, student lounges, and a large lecture hall, with wireless computer access throughout the building. © 2003 Handlin, Garrahan, Zachos and Associates
