Library and Student Center, Lincoln School
Providence, Rhode Island
We created the Library for this K-12 independent school by completely re-working a former classroom building -- originally the school's gym -- to form a continuous, three level, 8,000 SF learning center. Balconies visually connect all levels, and an internal stair wraps around the librarian's office, itself a miniaturized one-room schoolhouse.
The adjacent Student Center was built to connect the new Library with the existing Upper School. Its atrium provides a variety of areas where students congregate informally and serves as a final stop on the primary route that links outdoors to indoors, and Lower to Upper School. © 2003 Handlin, Garrahan, Zachos and Associates
